We’re busy making lots of new stock for our shop! It takes time to build a business, to decide on what exactly you’re about, what you want to make, what feels right… and so on.
Several things that have happened that have been unexpected is that I (Alice), after having a go at some woodworking alongside Scott during our time in Portugal, have decided that I rather love creating with wood. There is something so calming and organic about taking a piece of forgotten nature and turning it into something useable and (hopefully!) beautiful. The other thing is that I have really found joy in thinking about jewellery designs… when we started out we just kind of made things that ‘happened’ but now it feels we really are moving primarily towards more jewellery, and I guess focus is a good thing.
I’ve had a few goes now at various designs and there will be lots of earth-inspired jewellery coming to the shop over the next few weeks: pendants, earrings, rings… but for now I wanted to share with you the journey of these sweet little wooden stud earrings that I made from some little branches of a beautiful Arbutus Unedo tree – which we call the ‘Strawberry Tree’ – that grows outside the gates of our place in Portugal.
To think that a twig can become a beautiful earring is quite amazing (I think!) and this wood is just beautiful with just the slightest hint of pink. These – along with others – will be available in our shop soon. I’ll keep you posted!
