Happy New Year!

Happy New Year to you all! Here’s hoping it brings lovely things, and for anything that isn’t lovely, that we have the strength to deal with those things positively 🙂

It’s been a crazy couple of months for us… we felt unbelievably blessed to receive some great orders for our natural wooden jewellery and we sent pieces all over the world, which felt pretty special. We also handcrafted quite a few Miniature Tipi Play sets that we now make by custom order only, and wrapped them up with love for nature’s boys and girls. It felt good! particularly the toy-making as we are so passionate about children being encouraged to spend time in nature and nurture their imagination so the fact that other people are drawn to these little wooden gnome sets really makes us happy. Our own daughter received a set herself for Christmas… she had been complaining about the fact that ever since we made her prototype back early last year, they had improved somewhat and that therefore, an upgrade was necessary 😉

Making our daughter’s set gave us an opportunity to trial a few new items and I’m excited to say that this year Little Loquat will be creating a ‘Wedding Gnome Party Play Set’ (purely for prettiness!) and also an ‘Off-grid in the Forest’ set, which we hope will encourage children to consider water and electricity usage and how we can learn to live a little more lightly on this earth. We also have some beautiful fabrics found in remnant boxes ready to be made into sets so if, for instance, anyone would like a wild pony tipi set, just let us know!

There are also plans for new jewellery items, particularly painted pendants and earrings, with a focus on flower and plants as the inspiration and as, after eight years of being a vegetarian family, last year we made the decision to become 100% vegan we will be slowly moving over to ensuring that all of our creations are vegan-friendly in 2017 (vegan glue, no wool, no beeswax finishes and so on).

Being busy creating in the run up to Christmas really did feel magical, particularly as we were making toys by candlelight and head-torch in our simple off-grid home in Portugal… we felt like little elves! Right now we’re back in the UK for a short while and preparing to share a little piece of land with some alpacas and ponies – we always manage to find a corner of peace amidst the madness and once we’re settled we’ll be able to share more about our new bits and pieces.
